Symptom Management & Supportive Care Program

Our goal is to help our patients maintain independence and increase comfort by managing the symptoms of cancer and side effects of its treatment. The program is designed to assist patients at any stage in their cancer treatment.

Who is Eligible?

Services are available to any U-M Comprehensive Cancer Center patient who is:

Experiencing treatment- or cancer-related side effects or

Dealing with transition of care due to advancing cancer.

New symptom management program helps patients get back to their lives

The Clinic

The Symptom Management & Supportive Care Program works in concert with your oncology team to develop a plan of action to address your concerns. Depending on the nature of your situation, you may require an appointment in our clinic, which offers one-stop multidisciplinary care. Our team combines expertise in the following areas:
  • medication management for symptom control;
  • anemia management;
  • oral anti-cancer therapy management;
  • skin toxicity and wound management;
  • pain services;
  • physical and occupational therapy;
  • cancer nutrition;
  • palliative care or transition of care issues;
  • psychological counseling; and
  • integrative medicine.

The clinic is led by Medical Director Susan Urba, M.D., and Co-director Suzette Walker, M.S.N. It is located on Level 3 of the Med Inn Building, in the Cancer Supportive Care Center.
