Getting Back on Your Feet

At the University of Michigan, we understand that treatment issues go hand-in-hand with quality of life issues and that the most successful treatments are those that have the least impact on everyday living. Helping our patients maintain an acceptable quality of life and assisting them in continuing their familiar daily activities are the primary goals at the Cancer Center, and a variety of rehabilitative services are offered to address patients' specific needs at home and at work.

There are a several options to choose from:

• Physical Therapy
  Evaluates and treats disabilities using physical measures.
  
  
• Occupational Therapy
  Provides services to adult and pediatric patients whose abilities to cope with life tasks has been impaired by some aspect of their cancer or treatment.
  
  
• Enterostomal Therapy
  For patients with colostomies, ileostomies or urostomies.
  
  
• Speech-Language Pathology
  Provides services to patients whose ability to communicate and/or swallow has been affected by cancer or its treatment.
