Financial Assistance

If You Have No Insurance Coverage or Insufficient Coverage

Many people do not have full insurance coverage and some have no coverage at all. If this is the case, there are two main options: deferred payment plans with the Health System and/or other sources of financial assistance depending on your ability to meet eligibility requirements.

Available Resources

  • Parking Financial Assistance:

The Social Work Department at 734-764-3140 can provide information about eligibility.
  • Handicapped Parking:

Handicapped spaces are available in the parking structures. You must display a Handicapped Permit. Regular fees apply unless you have exemption certified by your doctor on the permit application.

Handicapped Permit Applications can be obtained at any Secretary of State office; copies are also available at the registration desk in the Cancer Center Lobby or from Social Work.

  • Meal Financial Assistance:

The Social Work Department at 734-764-3140 can provide information about eligibility for meal vouchers.
  • Pharmacy Assistance Program:

Pharmacy Services offers a program to help patients who have financial difficulties purchasing prescriptions. For more information, call 734-936-8243.
  • Co-pay Assistance for Leukemia and Lymphoma Patients

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society has established a Co-Pay Assistance Program, offering assistance to patients toward:

    • Private health insurance premiums
    • Private insurance co-pay obligations
    • Medicare Part B, Medicare Plan D, Medicare Supplementary Health Insurance and Medicare Advantage premium or co-pay obligations

For more information, please visit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Co-Pay Assistance Program web site for more information.

  • Lower Phone Rates for Low Income Households:

The telephone, no longer a luxury item in today's society, is a lifeline of communication. When times are tough, the phone becomes especially important-as we wait for a call back from a potential employer or receive words of encouragement from a friend.

Because no one should be without phone service, two federal programs exist to provide consumer discounts on telephone service:

    • Lifeline - provides qualified consumers with a discount on monthly charges for their primary home phone line, even if it's a cell phone.
    • Link-Up - lowers the cost eligible consumers pay for setting up new phone service at their home, including cell phone service.

Contact your local telephone company to make sure that you qualify for these benefits in your state and to request an application form.

If your local telephone company is not authorized to provide Lifeline or Link-Up discounts in your area, contact your state public utility commission or consumer advocate office to locate an authorized service provider.

  • Transportation Within Ann Arbor / Ypsilanti Areas:

Gold Card: Available free to persons 65 or older who live anywhere, but the card can only be used in Ann Arbor. Card enables holder to ride a taxi for $1.50 one way (companions cost extra), and ride AATA fixed bus routes at no cost.

A-RIDE Card: Available free to a person of any age with a disability. Medical certification is required. This authorizes the card-holder to make use of the AATA's special handicap van service.

Contact: Pick up applications from Social Work, or call Ann Arbor Transportation Authority (AATA) at 734-973-6500
