PsychOncology Program

Complementary Therapies Program

Complementary therapies usually refers to activities which offer a creative and/or physical outlet to reduce stress and anxiety. Up until recently, the U-M Comprehensive Cancer Center Complementary Therapies Program was separate from our PsychOncology Program. Recently the two programs were combined, but many people may still think of the following offerings as "complementary therapies" and so we continue to list them here.

Complementary therapies are coordinated with your medical treatment. The Patient and Family Support Services staff is part of a multi-disciplinary treatment team. They work with each patient's medical care specialists to make sure the patient pursues activities that are appropriate for his or her individual needs. Patients and their families are encouraged to take advantage of complementary therapy services at the Cancer Center. Some programs are offered free of charge, while others are available for a small fee. To discuss complementary therapy options, contact Patient Support Services at 1-877-408-7377 (PFSS).
