Cancer's Stem Cell Revolution:
Treatment options with stem cells

Is the U-M Cancer Center conducting clinical trials of cancer stem cell therapies?

A clinical trial of a new treatment for the blood cancer multiple myeloma is now underway. In 2008, U-M Cancer Center physicians hope to begin a clinical trial of a new treatment targeted at stem cells in breast cancer. Eventually, we hope to open clinical trials of stem cell-based treatments for all types of common cancer.

How can I enroll in these clinical trials?

Currently, the Cancer Center is not enrolling new patients in these research studies. These are small studies involving just a few patients with advanced cancer that has not responded to traditional therapy.

Where can I get more information about U-M cancer clinical trials?

What about other types of cancer?

The U-M Cancer Center has research teams working to identify cancer stem cells in every major type of cancer. Our research suggests that stem cells from different types of cancer share important properties. So knowledge gained from the study of stem cells in one type of cancer can be applied to other types of cancer, as well.
