Did you notice the elves in our midst? In addition to the many wonderful, caring volunteers throughout the Cancer Center, numerous Cancer Center and Health System staff members volunteer time above and beyond their normal responsibilities to benefit our patients. Thanks to staff volunteers for the extra care given through a multitude of special events and projects. One such effort was underway for several months leading up to the 2002 holiday season. During sewing, decorating and crafting bees, hundreds of holiday stockings were merrily made and filled for Cancer Center andVeterans Administration Hospital chemotherapy patients. A special thanks to Cancer Center administrative assistant Susan Blaisdell (chief elf) and the many dedicated and talented staff volunteers (elves) throughout the Cancer Center and Health System. The 2002 holiday season was the fourth year for the successful stockings project, which has proven to be a tremendous volunteer effort.
