U-M Cancer Center launches new blog
mCancerTalk.org features stories, resources, discussion for anyone affected by cancer--added 7/26/2011
Ann Arbor, MI. -- Whether you're newly diagnosed or a long-term survivor, cancer is a journey that requires loads of information and leads to many questions. The University of Michigan Comprehensive Cancer Center now has a new resource to help people through that journey.
MCancerTalk.org is a new blog website that offers informational articles and tips from U-M cancer specialists, as well as open forums for patients, survivors and caregivers to share their stories and ask their questions.
The forums are moderated by U-M Comprehensive Cancer Center staff. Questions from members are answered by registered oncology nurses from the U-M Cancer AnswerLine, as well as by U-M physicians and other specialized cancer care providers.
"There is so much value in cancer survivors and caregivers sharing their experiences and having a secure place where they can talk with others who know what they are going through. People want to know they're not alone," says Becky Eggleston, R.N., OCN, manager of the U-M Cancer AnswerLine.
The blog site is available to anyone who is affected by cancer, whether they or loved one was treated at U-M or elsewhere. The site allows people to become members. Members do not need to identify themselves by name and no personal information is collected. Members can also sign up to receive blog updates by email.
In addition, the Cancer Center recently launched a Twitter feed, @UMCancerCenter, which will share research news, as well as information about coping with cancer and attending upcoming events.
MCancerTalk supplements the Cancer Center's robust website presence, which includes information on the center's multidisciplinary cancer clinics, research programs and clinical trials opportunities. The U-M Comprehensive Cancer Center is also on Facebook.
