ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Buying a must-have pair of suede pumps or cute wedge sandals could end up benefiting cancer research at the
University of Michigan Comprehensive Cancer Center.
Offering more than 85,000 pairs of shoes at half the manufacturer's suggested retail price*, QVC and the Fashion Footwear Association of New York (FFANY) are
joining together for QVC Presents the 20th annual "FFANY Shoes on Sale." The broadcast is scheduled to air on QVC® from 6-9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, 2013.
The event is held each October in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, with net proceeds from the sales benefiting breast cancer research programs and education
institutions across the country, including U-M's Breast Oncology Program.
U-M received $397,970 from last year's sale and more than $4.5 million total since becoming involved with the event.
"FFANY and QVC have been instrumental in supporting several avenues of breast cancer stem cell research that would not have been pursued otherwise," says
Daniel F. Hayes, M.D., co-director of the
Breast Oncology Program at U-M. "They are dedicated to ensuring that we make a difference against this disease, and
through their support we will."
In addition to the broadcast, the "Shoe of the Day" is being offered each weekday from 7-9 a.m. on QVC during the month of October. Additional styles are available
online at QVC.com, supporting breast cancer research and education.
