General Guidelines

You will be given written instructions at discharge. These are several general instructions for all patients:
  • Limit your activities at home for at least 24 hours after your procedure.
  • Do not drive for at least 24 hours after your procedure.
  • Begin meals with clear liquids and progress to solid foods as they are tolerated.
  • Take your medications as prescribed.

 

Activities to Avoid

The medication you received during your procedure may affect your memory and mental judgment for 24 hours following anesthesia. Therefore, you should avoid the following activities during this period:
  • climbing ladders
  • handling boiling liquids
  • drinking alcohol
  • using electric appliances
  • operating machinery
  • signing legal documents, etc.

When to Contact Your Surgeon

You should follow the discharge instructions given to you at discharge. If you experience any of the following you should contact your surgeon immediately:
  • fever over 101 degrees Fahrenheit by mouth
  • excessive bleeding from your wound
  • continued vomiting
  • inability to urinate

 

Questions and Contact Information

A nurse from the B2 Procedure Room will contact you the next business day after your surgery. For problems or questions, see your discharge instruction sheet for the phone numbers to call.

If you have any questions, problems or concerns related to your surgery, please contact your surgeon. If you do not have this phone number, please call the paging operator at 734-936-6267. A physician is available to help you twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.
