Just one month shy of her seventh birthday, Morgan was referred to the UM Comprehensive Cancer Center for biopsies that led to a diagnosis of aplastic anemia. This condition happens when the bone marrow does not produce enough blood cells, resulting in higher risk of infections and uncontrolled bleeding. Morgan’s older sister Kelsey, now 14, became her marrow donor. Dr. John Levine was her primary doctor for treatment, and for follow-up care she has seen all of the BMT pediatric team, including Drs. Cooke, Ferrara, Hutchinson and Yanik. Morgan’s father Chris has become active in the state chapter of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LL&S) after his mother, Barbara, was diagnosed with non-hodgkins lymphoma. “Now,” says Chris, “I have two great reasons to be involved.” Chris serves on the Board of Trustees of LL&S and works with their “Team In Training” program featuring marathon fundraisers. The whole Fenton family is grateful for their health and the bright futures for Barbara and Morgan.
