The Multidisciplinary Breast Care Clinic

Providing team-based treatment and support to all patients

Lisa Newman, M.D., M.P.H., Director

Our clinic provides people diagnosed with breast cancer a team-based approach to treatment. During the initial visit, patients may talk with surgical oncologists, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, plastic surgeons, gynecologists, social workers and nurses. In addition, they will have their mammograms and pathology slides read all in one day.

Our multidisciplinary tumor board meets once a week to discuss every patient who comes through our doors. A room full of experts - specialists in treating breast cancer specifically - sit together to talk through the best treatment options, including clinical trials, for each individual. Patients get the benefit of not just one opinion but more than two dozen expert opinions.

We offer the most comprehensive, effective and least invasive treatment methods. Our philosophy is breast preservation, through lumpectomy and radiation therapy, when possible. We also offer immediate reconstruction using the patient's own tissue.

For those women who need treatment for breast cancer, we offer the most comprehensive, effective and least invasive treatment methods. Our philosophy is breast preservation, through lumpectomy and radiation therapy, when possible. We also offer immediate reconstruction using the patient's own tissues.

We're sensitive to the anxiety women with breast cancer experience, so counseling and emotional support are integral parts of the Breast Care Center. Our support programs include breast cancer education and support groups, peer counseling, a reconstruction forum, the MedSport Health Enhancement Program, and breast self-examination instruction. Please take time to visit the For Cancer Center Patients area of this website. We outline the services available to our patients at every point in their care, including survivorship.
