Your Clinic Visit

Comprehensive Cancer Center building Your visit may be entirely handled by Dr. Junck or Rogers. It may be handled in part by a resident physician or fellow; if so, you will also see Dr. Junck or Rogers. A nurse practitioner may also assist in your evaluations. The doctors will take a detailed history. Neurologic examination may include testing of your memory, vision, facial movements, strength, coordination, sensation, and walking. Your scans will be reviewed and the findings discussed with you. The doctors will do their best to summarize your current situation and answer any questions you may have.

It is possible that the physicians may delay reaching their final recommendations until they receive additional information or discuss your situation with other physicians. It is possible that your physician will want to discuss your case at the Brain Tumor Board, which takes place on Friday morning, before giving final treatment recommendations.

The length of time required for your visit is difficult to predict. As a general rule, for your iniitial visit, we recommend that you plan 2-3 hours, and, for a return visit, 1½ to 2 hours.

It is helpful if you do the following:

  • We encourage you to bring a key family member or other person.
  • Bring a list of your current medications, including dose and schedule, that you can leave with us.
  • Bring a list of your other doctors including addresses.
  • If you have had scans (MRIs, CTs) performed elsewhere, bring copies of the scans on CDs or film
  • If this is your initial visit, bring copies of medical records. Most important:
    • are operative reports,
    • discharge summaries,
    • pathology report, and
    • summaries of previous treatment.
  • Bring a list of key questions.
  • Be prepared to let us know of any prescriptions for which you need refills.
