Doctor Approved! icon The purpose of this information guide is to help patients newly diagnosed with a brain tumor and their families to find sources of information and support. This list is not meant to be comprehensive, but rather to provide starting points for information seeking. The materials can be found at the Patient Education Resource Center (PERC) of the University of Michigan Comprehensive Cancer Center in room B1-361.

This slide show utilizes illustrations, sound, and animations to provide basic, easy-to-understand explanations of brain anatomy, primary and metastatic tumors and the most common therapies. It is possible to turn on a voice over or print a text version.

Web Resources

American Brain Tumor Association
This organization offers information and support services for people diagnosed with brain tumors. The Tumor Information section offers information about specific tumors, treatments and living with a brain tumor.

The Brain Tumor Society

This site included detailed information about brain tumors, nutrition, complementary therapies and support services as well as lay-language summaries of medical articles. It is also possible to download brochures and fact sheets about various topics. The book Color Me Hope: A Resource Guide for People Affected by Brain Tumors, is also available for printing.

National Brain Tumor Foundation.

This site presents information regarding treatment options and community resources for brain tumor patients and families. Features include a database of questions answered by health professionals and a link library arranged by topic. It is also possible to download and print this organization's publications including "The Essential Guide to Brain Tumors", "The Resource Directory" and "Coping With Your Loved One's Brain Tumor".

Musella Foundation for Brain Tumor Research Information. Clinical Trials & Noteworthy Treatments for Brain Tumors.

This site offers a comprehensive database of clinical trials for brain tumors as well as extensive information about brain tumors research including lay-terms summaries of medical articles, medical news and a dictionary. The video library featuring brain tumor experts discussing various treatments is especially interesting.
