Brain Tumor Board

Brain Tumor Board meets weekly on Friday morning. It provides a means for patients to benefit from the expertise of a multidisciplinary team of physicians without having to schedule evaluations by those physicians. Physicians from neuro-oncology, neurosurgery, radiation oncology, neuropathology, and neuroradiology participate on a regular basis.

Cases are presented by a UM physician for input from the multidisciplinary team. The patient does not need to be present. In some cases, pathology slides are reviewed, and in nearly all cases, imaging studies (MRIs, CTs) are reviewed. Cases may be presented for review of diagnosis or for discussion of treatment recommendations. Patients are typically presented after a new diagnosis, but they may also be presented when they are at a critical point where multidisciplinary input would be helpul. In most cases, your UM physician will plan to call you on the same day as Brain Tumor Board to notify you of the recommendations.

Patients generally must be under the care of a UM physician to be presented. Occasionally we will discuss patients not under our care at the request of a referring physician.
