Friends, family and loved ones of those diagnosed with cancer are survivors in their own way

The diagnosis of cancer or any other life-threatening illness presents a threat to the balance of the entire family system. When a child is diagnosed with cancer, the journey that lies ahead can seem overwhelming. Issues related to childhood cancer survivorship differ from those of adults. Certainly, there are challenges during the treatment phase. Additionally, as more and more pediatric cancer patients live beyond five and ten years, these cancer survivors are displaying symptoms of what has come to be called late effects.
