The majority of visits to the Pediatric Hematology/ Oncology Clinic are by cancer patients, although patients with
sickle cell disease, chronic neutropenias and chronic granulomatous disease are treated as well. In addition, there is
a clinic devoted solely to hemophilia and coagulation disorders.

Patient CareThe Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Clinic accepts patient referrals for all hematologic and oncologic problems in children and adolescents. Four full-day clinics are held and approximately 100 to 125 patients are seen in the University of Michigan Comprehensive Cancer Center each week. Most patients receive multidisciplinary input from pediatric surgeons, pathologists, radiologists and radiotherapists.The University of Michigan serves as a referral center for much of the state of Michigan, as well as northwestern Ohio. Make an appointment with the clinic TreatmentThe Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Clinic is affiliated with the Children's Cancer Group (CCG), one of two nationwide cooperative groups devoted to the study and treatment of pediatric malignancies. Patients with cancer are treated according to guidelines suggested by the CCG.Treatment plans are specifically available for: leukemias, lymphoma, aplastic anemia, Ewing's sarcoma, neuroblastoma, childhood solid tumors, neutropenia, thrombocytopenia, sickle cell anemia, coagulation disorders, thrombotic disorders, brain tumors, bone tumors, chronic granulomatous diseases and disorders requiring bone marrow transplantation. Clinic TeamThe clinic team consists of eight medical faculty, as well as seven nurse practitioners, three outpatient chemotherapy nurses, a social worker and several child life workers with special expertise in pediatric cancers.Read more about the team note: this link goes to the UMHS website.
