Prostate Cancer Genetics Project

Purpose:

The Prostate Cancer Genetics Project at the University of Michigan Comprehensive Cancer Center has been established to determine possible genetic causes of prostate cancer. We are interested in studying families in which more than one individual has been affected with prostate cancer.


General Criteria for Participation Are:

  • Age 55 or younger at diagnosis
  • Families where two or more living family members have been diagnosed witih prostate cancer

If you notify us that you are interested in participating in this study, you will be contacted via telephone by a member of the Prostate Cancer Genetics Project and asked to sign a consent form with a full explanation of your participation in this study.


Participation Will Also Include the Following:

  • Providing information on your family history including members of your family diagnosed with prostate and other forms of cancer.
  • Releasing medical record information relating to your cancer diagnosis.
  • Possibly notifying other members of your family, selected by the research team, about this study.
  • Providing a small blood sample.

You will not be required to travel to Ann Arbor, Michigan or pay for any expenses associated with this study. Your participation will be greatly appreciated and may help improve our understanding of the causes of prostate cancer.
